BiManila.com
Staying Connected
By Kiki Tan
I’ve heard of BiManila.com way, way before; but I never bothered joining. The main reason being it’s a Metro Manila-based site – meaning, self-identification of its members as bi (for bisexual) is largely questionable, considering that in the Philippines, a big portion of the homosexual community who do not want themselves to be identified as homosexuals (often associated with being a screaming faggot, thereby deemed unwanted – a form of internal homophobia, definitely) identify themselves as bi. Weirdly funny (and detrimental to real bisexuality’s cause), but it’s the common practice, that’s true.
But then a friend (himself self-identifying as bi), who had been in and out of jobs for quite a while, found himself a job through BiManila.com – and that piqued my interest big time. For how can a gay site actually do that (well, aside from earning through cumming on web cams – as is the case in most adult gay sites, where many earn from through selling online sex)?
The joining is, well, unlike other gay sites because, mainly, this is not a gay site – well, not in a traditional sense. This is actually a community, which has an online presence through BiManila.com. meaning, when you’ve joined the group, the main mode of staying connected – aside from visits to their site – is to wait for news care of your own email (that’s how I get mine, anyway).
With BiManila.com, therefore, forget Guys4Men.com-like pick-ups – no, there aren’t dick photos here for you to decide if it’s big enough for you to want to meet its owner; or pictures of twinks trying to bait mature men for sugar daddies; or things like these – at least not in my experience. The way I see it, you can have these, instead, through personal responses to posts.
And this is the best thing about BiManila.com – as a community thingie, you get to hear from just about everyone, not just those who want to get in your pants. And there’s comfort in that. Especially, as my friend’s case proves, when you can get something really, really big from it.
