GLBTQIAs and Drug Use

For the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), minimizing risks (and teaching how this can be done) may serve everyone better, as it offers three specific steps on how to go about drug (illicit or not) use, i.e.:
1) Use the buddy system. Meaning, “don't go to parties by yourself if you know that alcohol is going to be served. Make sure one of your friends is designated to stay sober for the night. Whether or not you are driving to where you are going, it's a good idea to make sure that at least one person that you trust will be thinking clearly all night,” PPFA states.
2) Watch your drinks. Particularly, “don't ever leave drinks unattended, and don't take drinks from people that you don't know.”
3) Talk about decision making while you are sober. “If you are uncomfortable doing something when you are sober, your body and mind are probably giving you messages about who is a safe person to share your experiences with, how to best protect your health, and when to make decisions that you are truly ready for. Don't let alcohol or drugs change your mind,” PPFA states.

For David D.C., though – particularly addressing drug/substance using GLBTQIAs – everything has to do with personal responsibility. So that “what happened to R.L. in Cebu City, O.D.’ing the way he did, can’t be blamed on anyone else but himself. Unless, of course, if he lacked knowledge about what he was doing, then it becomes a collective fault of everyone.”

For him, “it’s all about knowing what you are getting yourself into – and being responsible for that.” Therefore, “if you are looking for a good time, don’t take,” David D.C. ends
