Remedios AIDS Foundation Inc. (RAF) was established in 1991 as an independent non-profit, non-stock, non-government organization committed to prevent transmission of HIV and/or AIDS, as well as to reduce the impact of HIV and/or AIDS. The intent is to be accomplished through the provision of “quality sexual and reproductive health information, as well as (rendering of) direct services to people, with particular focus on vulnerable individual and communities affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.”
RAF has long been known for, among others, the IEC materials it develops and distributes (e.g. posters, manuals, modules, directories, postcards, flyers, pamphlets, brochures, stickers, bookmarks, pins, client service cards – outputs including produced publications on Counseling, HIV Care and Support services, AIDS Coordination Team (ACT@com.base) Grief loss and bereavement, and PHA Case studies/ life stories); and researches (e.g. on HIV AIDS Local Responses on AIDS, HIV/AIDS Stigma and Discrimination, and YZ ARH shopping mall based model).
Other pro-active projects include:
- Youth Zone, a mall-based response to reaching out to HIV and/or AIDS high-risk communities;
- Telephone counselling on reproductive health information, and subsequent referral services;
- AIDS hotline;
- Family planning hotline; and
- Care, clinical and diagnostic services through the Clinica Remedios.
According to the NGO’s Web site: “Various programs has been implemented by Remedios AIDS Foundation in order to achieve its mission vision and goals that it has set forth. These programs served the foundation's priority clients namely: women, the workplace, the sex worker industry and their clients, adolescents/youth, men who have sex with men (MSM), and people living with HIV/AIDS-their families and friends . Remedios programs assured to fit the needs of its clients taking into the account the context of Filipino culture, values and practices. Clients are assured that all programs uphold to its high ethical standards and professionalism.”
Due to RAF’s efforts, the NGO has reaped such awards as the OHNAP Golden Lamp 2000 from the Occupational Health Nurses Association of the Philippines, 1994 Hoy Gising! From the ABS CBN for its public service of the AIDS Hotline Program, and the 1994 Gawad Oscar M. Florendo Award for its AIDS Hotline Program (one of the 10 finalists in the most outstanding public information program or tool category).
